We are doing major maintenance work during the last week of October. Expect the wiki be unavailable for some time.

Mental action

From Decoding the Disciplines
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Mental action refers to the action an expert would take to avoid getting stuck in the way stundents are getting stuck in their learning.<ref>Middendorf, J., & Shopkow, L. (2017). Overcoming student learning bottlenecks: Decode the critical thinking of your discipline. Stylus Publishing, LLC., p. 6</ref> The term is related to mental move. In Decoding the Disciplines both terms are basically tantamount. Sometimes mental move is used to refer to mental actions made transparent in Step 2 of Decoding.
